Easy steps on how to wash and take care of t-shirts for longevity

Washing machine

T-shirt washing is always a tricky one. Here is a guide to help you get the best results. The most common mistake when washing a t-shirt is not following the instructions. In this article, you’ll learn why you shouldn’t skip the delicate cycle and how you can get a better result.

Wash your cybersecurity t-shirts properly, and you’ll be surprised how long they last!

Ink Cure Time

In most cases, we automatically throw the new clothes in the laundry before we put them on for the first time. And only put them on later when they are washed and ironed. But is that the correct thing to do with freshly printed t-shirts? Before you do your first wash, check how much time has passed since the t-shirt, sweatshirt, or other textile was printed. Generally speaking, the print needs 2 to 3 days, on average, to mature and harden.

Laundry symbols

A laundry symbol often called a care symbol, is a pictogram indicating the manufacturer’s suggestions for washing, drying, dry-cleaning, and ironing clothing.

You should always follow the laundry symbols for instructions. But in this case, the characteristics of the print are superior to the parameters recommended by the T-shirt manufacturer.

Once upon a time, t-shirts were washed as gently as possible; by hand. It is still true that this method disturbs the print as little as possible, but thanks to the development and availability of modern technology, today we can easily wash them in the washing machine.

Washing Instructions

Washing is an essential process that determines the durability of a printed t-shirt. Follow these simple tips for a clean and lasting shirt:

  1. Always wash inside out
    • That’s universal advice for every outfit, valid at all times. Textiles wear out with abrasion, so let them rub on the inside rather than the outside. Regular washing inside out will reduce the formation of wrinkles and extend the life of the fabric.
  2. Do not use Fabric Softeners or bleach
    • Remember – softeners do not hurt the t-shirts, but we do not recommend using them regularly. If you still don’t want to give it up, add a little. Avoid bleach, though. It will cause stains on colored tees and can irreparably damage prints.
  3. Do not dry clean and avoid ironing the design
    • You can iron a T-shirt, but never over the print or its’ reverse side. If you’re already ironing, be careful, and try to avoid the motive at all costs.
  4. Wash in cold water, on a gentle cycle
    • With the low temperature, you can be sure that the material and print will last for a long time, even for years. Higher temperatures won’t harm your t-shirts – if you get a batch washed at higher temp once in a while, nothing will happen.
  5. Tumble dry low or let air dry
    • While dryers are practical inventions, they are not very gentle on printed fabrics. Even though our T-shirts are made of high-quality materials, they could suffer in the dryer. Treat your laundry to fresh air instead.

And that’s it. That’s cool, right? When appropriately washed, T-shirts last for years. However, if you have lost your favorite T-shirt due to careless handling, we will be happy to help you produce a new one exactly to your liking.
